You need to standardize before you optimize

I forgot the book where I got the title, maybe from the “Atomic Habits” or “Existentialism”. No worries, this is my take on it. Your mileage may vary, so take this all with a grain of salt.

Thinking is good. You don’t want to jump head on to something important without thinking things through. But sometimes, too much thinking leads to paralysis. Nothing is getting done, and you have a big headache of should haves and could haves.

That’s why it’s okay to have a rough plan, at first. You must then take action. From that brave action, you will see one of three things, that this action brings me closer, or further to my goal. Sometimes nothing happens, but it’s okay. There is new data in which you can base your next move. Do things and make them right sort of way.

Losing weight one step at a time

For example, trying to lose weight. You know you need to diet and exercise and have rest. So, you do your flash research in a search engine or video site. What are the most “bang for the buck, trendy activities, how to do IF or Mediterranean diet, best ways to tweak your sleep, etc.”. Sadly, strategies work only work when you do the work. It is better to do them badly at first then improve one step at a time, rather than endlessly searching for the perfect routine and diet.

Standardize first, make a system of doing things consistently, or a successful habit. Then optimize, improve on that system or habit, which has become a solid foundation. Step one, step two. Repeat as necessary.

What are your thoughts on this? Pretty much straightforward and simple, right?

Comment and let me know. Again, thanks for reading and have a great week ahead.

All the best from your online friend,
